Falling In Love With God’s Word

If you’ve attended church, you’ve probably heard these words many times. I know I had, but I didn’t get it … until several years ago.

For most of my life, the Bible was not something I thought about actually reading. It seemed complicated, intimidating and very difficult to make sense of. But in 2008, the church I attended offered a Bible study that went through 75 percent of the Bible over a period of nine months. I decided it was time to see if I could actually understand the Bible. That was the beginning of the most amazing love affair of my life. Since I’ve made it a priority to study God’s Word I’ve uncovered insights that have helped me through some challenging times.

One of the most powerful insights that came to me is that Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh. When we read God’s Word we are in the presence of Jesus. He is accessible and He wants us to seek Him, to get to know Him, and to make Him our primary mentor and friend. The more I look to God’s Word for answers, the more wisdom I find and the stronger I feel, because I literally experience being plugged into Christ for strength. And the more I learn, the more I fall in love with God’s Word.

Recently, I learned a way to share God’s Word with others that has literally changed my life! I took the Story Revolution workshop developed by Diane Brask, and have learned how to tell Bible stories so that it brings the stories to life for others. I had heard about Bible storytelling a couple of years ago, but my perception was that it was meant for missionaries and maybe people who lead children’s ministry. What I’ve discovered is that it has much more far-reaching potential.

Why is Bible story telling so powerful?

You are learning to commit God’s stories to memory, not just with your mind, but also with your heart. You learn to put yourself into the scene, and consider what people were experiencing, and feeling. You share God’s stories in the same way a good story teller would tell their stories. What happens for the audience is that they see themselves in the story, making it more relevant and impactful to them.

The process also has helped me uncover new insights even from stories I thought I knew well. On top of that, I am literally experiencing positive changes in me – like God’s Word is working on me as I prepare and share the stories. And I am more in love with God’s Word than ever!

We’re doing a Story Revolution workshop in Fayetteville, ARK. on Saturday, November 11th. Please reach out to me if you are interested in this date or if you’d like to learn more about getting a workshop done in your area.
