Today, the sermon talked a lot about giving thanks. And I know that being thankful for what we have is incredibly powerful and important. It’s what God wants us to do. When I got home from church, I went to let our cat out of her room and discovered that, for the first time in the three months we’ve had her, she decided to pull some of the books down from a shelf in the bookcase that was still in there. I was NOT happy, but it did prompt me to move the bookcase and look at a couple of things in the shelves including a book of poems I’ve written over the years. So I’d like to share one – and others soon – with you.
Giving Thanks, written August 4, 1997
Thank you, God for helping me see
That in every moment there is beauty
When I, in the moment allow me to be
Experiencing, expressing what truly is me.
Thank you, God for this precious gift
Your grace, these people give my spirit a lift
As I choose what is joyful, through experiences sift
And allow myself on a river of love to drift
Thank you, God for these special friends
Upon whose support I can unfailingly depend
As kind words and spiritual insights never end
I can trust, I can grow with each road as it bends.
